From July 2018 to mid November 2020 the Otto Benecke Stiftung e. V. (OBS), in collaboration with German and Moroccan Vocational Educational Training (VET) organisations in Morocco, will undertake the project ‘German-Moroccan Training Partnerships for the Vocational Orientation of Young People in Morocco’. Working with companies and their trade associations, a system for vocational orientation and for managing the transition from school to training is being developed, through the implementation phase of which will pass a total of 360 young people. The project is being funded by the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (German Association for International Cooperation GmbH), on behalf of the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development).
Project initiation: Vocational orientation with the aim of vocational training in Morocco
Thanks to training partnerships between German and Moroccan vocational training organisations, young people in Morocco have access to vocational training in national and international companies for a period of up to six months. The central focus is to provide career orientation and pre-qualification of 360 young people, who are introduced to a range of skilled occupations where they are appropriately trained in key sectors such as Renewable Energy, Construction and Tourism. The project makes a conscious effort to promote occupational training (dual education system) within the Moroccan VET system.
Target group: migrant and local young people training together
The project’s target group is young people in Morocco, local, migrant and returning emigrant. Together, they should be integrated into the training market where they can mutually support and motivate each other, and benefit sharing cultures. They are made aware of the benefits of vocational training and receive individual support based on their interests, talents and skills. In addition, within the training partnerships framework, employees of educational institutions in Morocco are qualified in the career guidance of young people.
Aim: to contribute to the development of career prospects in Morocco
The aim is to help disadvantaged young people encountering training difficulties, providing them with career guidance and introducing them to vocational regulated training. In the medium and long term, the project aims to contribute to improving the image of vocational training in Morocco, and to help reduce unemployment and lack of prospects for young people in Morocco whilst counteracting social tensions and the possible irregular migration to Europe (keyword: tackling the causes of migration).
The project is sponserd by Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ).
